HEADACHE
HEADACHE
DEFINITION
Migraines, headache, headache, cough, cold, fatigue, pain, are all alarm bells and if we calm the symptoms easily, we should always look for the root causes with the help of our family doctor. It is always necessary to treat the evil at its root for a definitive cure. Headache is pain of varying intensity or nervous tension that can occur anywhere on the head. There are many root causes (fatigue, hypertension, eye pain, depression, malaria, typhoid fever, influenza, glaucoma, overwork, digestive disorders, painful periods, stress, rheumatism, meningitis, sinusitis, drug poisoning, etc.).
SYMPTOMS
In a headache (tension headache) the pain often occurs on both sides of the head (often in the frontal region).
You have the impression of having your head clamped in a vice or like a hammering. Headaches can come on suddenly or gradually and the duration can vary from several minutes to several hours.
One important difference from migraine is that the pain does not get worse with exertion and the headache is usually not accompanied by nausea or vomiting.
In addition one can speak of chronic tension headache when a person undergoes more than 15 attacks per month and that during 6 months, if this is the case talk to your doctor.
TREATMENTS
The drugs are numerous and very effective, but once the underlying disease is well identified, appropriate treatment is needed for a permanent cure.
Medicines
- paracetamol, 500 mg in adult dosage, to be taken every 4 hours. In tablet, sucking tablet, sachet, suppository or effervescent tablet.
- acetylsalicylic acid (= ASS, also called aspirin), in an adult dosage of 500 mg, to be taken according to the advice of the doctor or pharmacist. In tablet, effervescent tablet or instant tablet.
- ibuprofen in the dosage of 100, 200 mg or 400 mg adult dosage, to be taken according to the advice of the doctor or pharmacist. In tablet.
- naproxen, to be taken as tablets
- diclofenac, 12.5 mg (over-the-counter adult dosage), to be taken according to the doctor's advice. In tablet.
- various other molecules, ask your pharmacy for advice
- mixtures of these molecules (for example AAS and paracetamol, ...), sometimes supplemented by other molecules such as caffeine (it seems to accelerate the speed of action).
Notes on pain relievers:
1. The choice of an analgesic is quite personal, try several drugs (molecules listed above) to see which one has the most effect on you, in particular according to your sensitivity (for example aspirin is not very suitable in case heartburn, ... Seek the advice of a specialist who will provide you with information).
2. Taking pain relievers long term can ironically increase the headache, be sure to take it sensibly. Ask your pharmacist or doctor for advice.
